The Jamaica Gleaner Jamaica: Melbourne, Lucas win outright

Lucas and Melbourne scored big wins, while the Jamaica Defence Force carved out first innings points as the Rothman's Surrey Senior Cup ended its seventh round yesterday.

Lucas's victory pushed them to the top of the pack on 28 points, two more than the JDF, while Melbourne moved to 24 points.

At Up Park Camp: The JDF beat St. Catherine C.C. on first innings points.

Scores: JDF 287 and 237 for three; St. Catherine C.C. 277.

Resuming on their overnight 116-3 and hunting first innings points, St. Catherine fell 10 runs short of their target as pacer Howard Copeland captured four for 83, spinner Paul Brown took three for 60, while spinner Omar Ellington picked up two for 20.

Batting for the Spanish Town-based team, Oneil Richards topscored with 54 before being last man out bowled by Ellington, while other useful contributions came from Barrington Bartley Jnr. (43), Milton Thomas (42) and Renford Pinnock Jnr. (21).

Batting a second time, openers Marlon Kennedy (72) and Mark Gray (66) posted 147 for the first wicket before Wayne Cuff followed his first innings 125, with 46 from just 44 balls, before he was caught by Tamar Lambert off Bartley, before the game was eventually called off with pacer Jermaine Lawson taking two for 58 from 10 overs.

At Nelson Oval: A good allround performance from Gareth Breese steered Lucas to a 10-wicket victory over Boys' Town.

Scores: Boys' Town 151 (Phillip Keating 32, Demitrus Francis 27; Anshuman Kentish 4-22, Gareth Breese 3-29) and 108 (Gareth Breese 7-45); Lucas 194-4 (Chris Gayle 93) and 65 without loss (Chris Gayle 30 n.o., Royan Smith 30 n.o.).

At Melbourne Oval: Melbourne defeated Police by an innings and 27 runs.

Scores: Police 245 (Leonard Coley 99, Errol Brown 76; Shacurie Wilson 3-55, Marlon Samuels 3-56) and 138 (Coley 34, Kenute Asquith 30; Carlton Baugh Jnr., 3-50, Shacurie Wilson 2-12, Ray Stewart 2-35); Melbourne 410-6 declared (Aubrey Wollaston 131, Ray Stewart 103 n.o., Colin Fletcher 71, Carlton Baugh Jnr., 38 n.o.).

At Goodyear Oval: Kensington gained first innings points from St. Thomas.

Scores: Kensington 215 and 181 for three; St. Thomas 117 and 161 for six.

Batting first, Kevin Murray led the way for Kensington with 81, while David Bernard Jnr. chipped in with 58 against Timmy Thomas, six for 51 and Samuel Plummer two for 19. When St. Thomas replied, only Kenneth Thompson 37, Garnett Downie 17 and Samuel Plummer 10 reached double figures against Bernard Jnr. four for 16 and Errol Wilson four for 37.

In their second innings, Bernard made 60 and Carlton Moore scored 50 for Kensington in their team's total of 181 for three. St. Thomas, sent in for the second time reached 161 for six as Kenneth Thompson hit an unbeaten 70 with Bernard, two for 29, being the top bowler.
