Jamaica: Number two for Breese The Jamaica Gleaner - 20 April 1999 Gareth Breese, the 23-year-old Lucas allrounder, became the first player to win two Man-of-the-Match awards in the Rothmans Senior Cup cricket competition when he was voted the top performer in the seventh round of the Surrey section. The Jamaica representative and former Jamaica and West Indies Youth captain, who won the award in the second round, was named the outstanding player of the seventh round following his allround performance of 67 runs, three wickets for 29 runs, and seven wickets for 45 runs against Boys' Town. In the second round, Breese shared the award with Jermain Lawson of St. Catherine CC after scoring 101 not out, taking three wickets for six runs and six wickets for 43 runs against Tivoli. Lawson shared the award with six wickets for 20 runs and six for 10 versus Police. Other winners: Round One, Surrey - Warren Medwynter of the Jamaica Defence Force with five for 32 and three for 38 versus Melbourne; Middlesex - Kevin Peart of Manchester with four for 43 versus St. Catherine; Cornwall - Clive Banton of St. Elizabeth with 77 and four for 26 versus St. James. Round Two: Surrey - Gareth Breese and Jermaine Lawson; Middlesex Colin Buchanan of St. Catherine with six for 78 and 23 versus St. Ann; Cornwall - no award. Round Three: Surrey - Carl Brissett of Portland with 171 not out versus St. Catherine CC; Middlesex - Kenny Isaacs of St. Catherine with foru 24 and for eight versus Clarendon; Cornwall - Tedroy Bromfield of St. James with 100 and not out versus Westmoreland. Round Four: Surrey - Tony Powell of St. Catherine CC with 167 not out versus Boys Town; Middlesex - Hensley Wilshaw of St. Mary with 107 and two for 39 versus Clarendon; Cornwall - Denville Mckenzie of Westmoreland with 72, three for 51 and two for 90 versus Trelawny. Round Five: Surrey - Royan Smith of Lucas with 106 not out and 52 not out versus Police; Middlesex - Maurice Cole of St. Catherine with seven for 44 and two for 40 versus St. Mary; Cornwall - Paul Palmer of Westmoreland with 99 and three for 47 versus St. Elizabeth. Round Six: Surrey- Mark Gillespie of Tivoli with seven for 51 versus Police; Middlesex - not matches; Cornwall - no matches. Round Seven: Surrey - Gareth Breese; Middlesex and Cornwall - awards to be announced. The awards for last weekend's round eight will be announced before the start of round nine on Saturday.
