Marlon Samuels thrashed the St. Jago bowling attack to score a superb double century and put defending Sunlight Cup champions Kingston College into a commanding position in their two-day cricket semi-final at Elletson Road yesterday.

Samuels' brilliant knock of 241 carried Kingston College to 421 for six off 89 overs at the close.

Kingston College's captain Sean Cousley won the toss and decided to bat. They lost Marvin McKain for nought, leg before to pacer Andre Rowe with only one run on the board.

Coming to the crease next was Samuels and immediately he hit the bowlers to all parts of the ground while skipper Cousley played the sheet-anchor role.

They saw KC going for lunch without losing another wicket and, upon resumption, continued their onslaught.

At tea, Samuels and Cousley were still together as they compiled a massive partnership.

However, after tea, Cousley fell three runs short of his century when he was bowled by Rowe. He and Samuels had put together a record second-wicket Cup partnership of 342 runs.

KC quickly lost their third wicket at 347, when Sheldon Allman was bowled by Rowe for one.

Samuels' brilliant knock ended with KC on 389 when he was caught and bowled by Ryan Campbell for 241. His innings included 43 fours. KC lost two more wickets at 399 and 410 before the close. Rowe was the best of the bowlers with three for 59 with Calvin Walsh taking two for 127.

Meanwhile, Rayon Clarke scored a half century to steer Bridgeport Comprehensive to a challenging 193 against last year's beaten finalists Jonathan Grant High in their semi-final at Bridgeport Oval.

At the close yesterday, Jonathan Grant were 57 for one in reply.

Sent in to bat on a placid strip, Bridgeport found the going rough in the early stages as pacers Howard Walters and Roshane Ferron rocked their top order with two wickets apiece to have the host team in trouble at 55 for four before Clarke and Christopher Hopwood steadied the ship with a solid 77-run fifth wicket partnership.

Hopwood joined Clarke with the score at 55 and together piloted the home team beyond the hundred mark before Hopwood was bowled by off-spinner David Harrison for 17.

Clarke, batting with an injured ankle, was severe on Ferron whom he hit for two consecutive boundaries and Jonathan Grant's captain Tamar Lambert whom he hit for a mighty six over the long-on boundary to top score for his team with 75, made off 154 balls and including seven boundaries before he went leg before to Lambert with the score at 132.

Captain Damion Douglas with 25 was the next best individual score, as Bridgeport's lost their last five wickets for 61 runs.

David Harrison claimed three for 38, Andre O'Sullivan 2-11, Walters 2-26 and Ferron 2-29.

In reply, Jonathan Grant were 57 for one with captain Tamar Lambert unbeaten on 31, while Gerald Morgan was on 20.

AT MAXFIELD PARK: St. Andrew Technical (STATHS) replying to Waterford Comprehensive's 245, in which captain Royan Smith smashed 61, were 83 for three at stumps.
