Burnley Batsman signs with Middlesex The Lancashire Evening Telegraph - 1 April 1999 Burnley batsman Michael Brown will start his new contract with Middlesex next Tuesday in good heart after an award-winning season in South Africa. Brown spent the winter playing Premier League cricket for Western Province CC. And his total of over 400 runs at an average of more than 30 earned him the Van der Byl Ist Team batting award as the most successful batsman of the season. The award has been won in the past by internationals Hylton Ackerman, Peter Swart, Peter Kirsten and recently South Africa's Test newcomer H D Ackerman. Brown signed a professional contract for the 1999 season with Middlesex in December and takes up his duties at Lord's after Easter.
