Dawn Miandad says: No one asked him to withdraw his decision
The Dawn - 25 April 1999

KARACHI, April 24: Sports Minister Mushahid Husain held a closed door meeting with three representatives of the Pakistan cricket set-up immediately after the Prime Minister's reception on Saturday.

According to sources who attended the reception, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Khalid Mahmood, Javed Miandad and a senior cricket team member attended the meeting immediately after the reception.

Although the details of the meeting couldn't be known, it was, however, confirmed that the deliberations revolved around the crisis created by Miandad's resignation on the eve of Pakistan team's departure for England. Speaking from Lahore, Miandad told Dawn that he was not asked to take back his decision though he admitted that he attended a meeting with Mushahid Husain and two other officials. ``I was neither asked by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif nor by Mushahid Husain to reconsider my decision. But I think you should contact the Sports Minister and take a briefing of the meeting,'' Miandad said. Miandad said he also met Khalid Mahmood before the reception but he too didn't discuss the subject.

However, Khalid Mahmood is believed to have told officials of the cricket board that Miandad had nothing new to say. ``He repeated what he has been saying in the newspapers,'' a close source of Mahmood said.
