    First Match : Pakistan vs SriLanka : 19-03-1999

  • It was the 72nd match between the two sides.The record now reads : Pakistan 47,SriLanka 23,abandoned 2.
  • It was the 193rd match on Indian soil and seventh on this ground.
  • The ninth wicket partnership of 36 runs between Saqlain Mushtaq and Arshad Khan is a new record for Pakistan for this wicket against SriLanka.This obliterates the 28 runs stand between Moin Khan and Saqlain Mushtaq at Nairobi (Gymkhana) on 04-10-1996.
  • Pramodya Wickremasinghe took four wickets for the first time in his career. Now 18 SriLankans have captured four or more wickets in a match on 35 occasions.
  • Wasim Akram won his 17th MoM award.
  • Umpires B.A.Jamula and S.C.Gupta were officiating in their fifth and first match respectively.

    Second match :India vs SriLanka : 22-03-1999

  • It was the 58th match between the two sides.The record now reads : India 31,SriLanka 22,abandoned 5.
  • It was the ninth match on this ground.
  • Saurav Ganguly made his sixth hundred playing his 91st match (his first on Indian soil).Now only Sachin Tendulkar (21) and Mohammad Azharuddin (7) have made more hundreds than Ganguly for India,while Navjot Sidhu has also scored six hundreds.
  • Ganguly carried his bat through Indian innings.He became fourth Indian (on sixth occasion) to do so.Sunil Gavaskar has performed this feat on three occasions.
  • The second wicket stand of 236 runs between Ganguly and Dravid is India's best for this wicket against all countries.This obliterates the 231 runs partnership between Tendulkar and Sidhu against Pakistan at Sharjah on 15-04-1996.
  • This is also the highest stand for second wicket for any country against SriLanka obliterating the 204 runs partnership between Inzamam-ul-Haq and Salim Malik for Pakistan at Rawalpindi on 19-01-1992.
  • Ganguly and Dravid presented the sixth instance for India and 28th overall when two batsmen scored hundreds in same innings.
  • Ganguly became only the fourth player in ODI history to perform the allround feat of scoring a hundred and capturing four wickets in same match.The accompanying table has the details :

  • Saurav Ganguly won MOM award for the 11th time in his career.Now only Sachin Tendulkar(32),Mohammad Azharuddin (17) and Navjot Sidhu (14) have won more awards than Ganguly for India (Kapil Dev and Krish Srikkanth have also a tally of 17 awards each).
  • Umpires KS Giridharan and V.Gupte were officiating in their fifth and first match respectively.

    Third Match :India vs Pakistan : 24-03-1999

  • It was the 72nd match between the two sides.The record now reads : India 25,Pakistan 43,abandoned 4.
  • It was the eighth match on this ground.
  • The victory margin of 146 runs is largest for Pakistan over India. Previously Pakistan had beaten India by 134 runs at Toronto on 19-09-1998.
  • It was the tenth occasion when India lost a match by 100 or more runs.It is also the third heaviest defeat for India in ODIs(by runs margin). Incidentally it is the heaviest defeat for India on home soil.SriLanka had beaten India by 117 runs at Kanpur on 24-12-1986.
  • Saeed Anwar,when reached 12,completed his 6000 runs in ODIs in his 164th match.He became third Pakistani and 13th batsman in the world to raech this landmark.By doing so in his 162nd innings,Anwar became the joint second fastest in terms of least innings taken to complete 6000 runs with West-Indian Desmond Haynes.However the record of completing 6000 runs in least innings is still held by Australian Dean Jones,who took 157 innings to accomplish this feat.
  • Anil Kumble captured 4 wickets in a match for the eighth time in his career in his 160th match.
  • Gyanendra Pandey became 120th Indian to make an ODI appearance.However by failing to open his account,he became the 11th Indian to suffer the ignominy of getting a 'duck' on ODI debut.The other Indian to record this unwanted feat are Bishan Singh Bedi (vs England,Leeds,13-07-1974),Surinder Khanna (vs WestIndies,Birmingham,09-06-1979),Roger Binny (vs Australia,Melbourne,06-12-1980),Yograj Singh (vs NewZealand,Brisbane,21-12-1980),Krish Srikkanth (vs England,Ahmedabad,28-09-1984),LalChand Rajput (vs England,Nagpur,23-01-1985),Sanjeev Sharma (vs WestIndies,Calcutta,02-01-1988),Sachin Tendulkar (vs Pakistan,Gujranwala,18-12-1989) and VVS Laxman (vs Zimbabwe,Cuttack,09-04-1998).
  • Anwar won MoM award for the 20th time .He now holds the record of winning most awards for Pakistan.Anwar was previously at level with Javed Miandad with 19 awards.

    Fourth Match :Pakistan vs SriLanka : 27-03-1999

  • It was the 73rd match between Pakistan and SriLanka.The record now reads : Pakistan 47,SriLanka 24,abandoned 2.
  • It was the fourth match on this ground.
  • Marvan Atapattu,when reached 3,completed his 2000 runs in ODIs in his 68th match (67 innings).He became seventh SriLankan to do so.
  • Upul Chandana was playing his 50th match.He became 22nd SriLankan to do so.
  • When he caught Arjuna Ranatunga,Moin Khan completed his 150 dismissals as keeper.He became first Pakistani and fourth 'keeper in ODIs after Australian Ian Healy (234 dismissals in 168 matche),WestIndian Jeff Dujon (204 dismissals in 169 matches) and South African Dave Richardson (165 dismissals in 122 matches) to do so.
  • Mahela Jayawerdena scored his second hundred in his 19th match.
  • Jayawerdena won his second MOM award.
  • Imran Nazir was making his debut.He became 125th player to play in ODIs for Pakistan.

  • Jadeja won MoM award for the eighth time in his career.

    Sixth Match : India-Pakistan:01-04-1999

  • It was the 73rd match between the two sides.The record now reads : India 25,Pakistan 44,abandoned 4.
  • It was the seventh match on this ground.India lost a match for the first time on this ground.
  • The fourth wicket unbroken partnership of 163 runs between Ijaz Ahmed and Inzamam-ul-Haq is a new record for Pakistan for this wicket against India. The pair obliterated the 111 runs partnership between Javed Miandad and Imran Khan at Gujranwala on 03-12-1982.
  • Virender Shewag became 123rd Indian to make an ODI appearance.
  • Shewag conceded 22 runs of his third and 42nd over of Pakistan's innings. The sequence was :[ 1,4(no ball),wide,1,0,4,1 (no ball),6,2- Inzamam-ul-Haq faced the first ball of the over].
  • Ijaz Ahmed won MoM award for the 11th time in his career.
  • Umpires SK Bansal and K Hariharan were officiating in their 23rd and second match respectively.

    Seventh Match (Final) : India-Pakistan:04-04-1999

  • It was the 11th match on this ground.
  • Pakistan registered its 16th title win in ODIs.Only India (18) and Australia (17) have won more ODI titles than Pakistan.
  • Pakistan has now beaten India in seven consecutive matches.
  • Inzamam-ul-Haq became a victim of 'nervous nineties' for the fourth time in his career.He has now recorded the most scores in 90s for Pakistan along-with Ijaz Ahmed.
  • Azhar Mahmood captured five wickets in a match for first time in his career.He became 10th Pakistani to capture five wickets in a match (on 29th occasion).Incidentally it was the seventh instance of a five wicket haul for a Pakistani bowler against India.
  • Azhar Mahmood also became the second Pakistani and 13th bowler overall (on 15th occasion)to capture five wickets in the final of a tournament. The details :
