Sri Lanka Schools: Ananda-Lumbini in Elephant Lemonade Trophy final

The last year runners up Ananda will meet Lumbini MV in the Elephant Lemonade Cup knock out tournament final on Sunday at the SSC grounds, Maitland Place on Sunday.

In the two semifinals worked off yesterday, the Anandians trounced the defending champions S. Thomas' College by seven wickets at the NCC grounds, Maitland Place while Lumbini MV put up another giant killing performance to beat Prince of Wales College by 15 runs at CCC grounds, Maitland Crescent.

Even then Lumbini's success had great significance as they entered the Premier championship final for the first time. Despite defending a modest total of 136 runs they fought back well and dismissed the Cambrians for 121 runs. Sri Lanka youth cap Ranil Dhammika led the way with an accurate spell of bowling and finished with excellent figures of 2 for 11.

In addition the left arm spinner Upul Indrasiri claimed 3 for 29 with M. Priyantha (2 for 16) and P.C.L. Perera (2 for 12) providing the back up support. Earlier Sajith Dilantha hit a top score of 43 and helped Lumbini MV reach a respectable total of 136 runs.

Meanwhile the former champions Ananda continued with their excellent run of success by outplaying S. Thomas' College by seven wickets in a one sided encounter. The Thomians were shot out for just 119 runs with number ten batsman Ravin Perera making a top score of 22 not out.

Dinusha Bandara (2 for 13) and Thilina Kandambi (2 for 22) did the damage but it was Ananda's fielding that really made the difference as they were involved in four run outs during the innings. Ananda notched up the required the runs quite comfortably with 12 overs to spare.

At CCC grounds:

Lumbini MV: 136 in 41.3 overs (R. Dhammika 24, S. Dilantha 43, M. Priyantha 26, A.H. Krishantha 13 n.o, S. Weerawansa 3 for 22, M. Bandara 3 for 30, J. Gunaratne 2 for 29)

Prince of Wales: 121 in 46.4 overs (R. Peiris 54, P. Ranaweera 14, J. Wannakuwatte 14, S. Weerawansa 11, M. Priyantha 2 for 16, R. Dhammika 2 for 11, P.C.L. Perera 2 for 12, U. Indrasiri 3 for 29)

At NCC grounds:

S. Thomas': 119 in 46.2 overs (R. Perera 22 n.o, S. Peiris 12, G. Fernando 18, D. Bandara 2 for 13, T. Kandambi 2 for 22)

Ananda: 120 for 3 in 32.3 overs (L. Fernando 30, D. Bandara 29, L. Chaturanga 38, T. Kandambi 10 n.o, S. Peiris 2 for 33)
