Pakistan's World Cup squad were heading for England yesterday with captain Wasim Akram pledging the side would not be affected by the resignation of coach Javed Miandad.

Miandad quit last Wednesday, citing ``family reasons'', and the upheaval has led to claims that the 1992 World Cup winners will not be among the front runners in the tournament, which begins next month. But Wasim warned: ``We have left everything behind and are focused on our target of winning the cup. I believe we are among the top contenders to lift the cup.''

The Pakistan Cricket Board have still not accepted Miandad's resignation but South African Richard Pybus is likely to take over as coach.

Sussex are to operate a no-alcohol policy when South Africa play India in the World Cup, at Hove on May 15. The game is already a 6,500 sell-out.

West Indies officials are to meet for talks on how to avoid a repetition of the crowd trouble in the one-day series against Australia that ended on Sunday.

West Indies Cricket Board chief executive officer Steve Camacho said a discussion on security would be an important item on the agenda for their board meeting next month. Measures already raised include high fences, public education and only allowing plastic bottles at all grounds.
