Warm welcome awaits Arjuna's world champs
Ivan Corea - 24 April 1999

When Arjuna Ranatunga and the world champion Sri Lankan cricketers arrive in London on Saturday on Emirates Airlines, a sponsor of the World Cup, they will be given a right royal welcome.

On May 1 the team will be present at a key function - the World Cup dinner at the prestigious Grosvenor House Hotel in Park Lane, London.

People are flying in from the USA and Australia to attend this event to honour the world champions. This is Sri Lanka's hour and people are rallying around the team.

The Gypsies are flying over on Air Lanka to entertain a huge gathering. Business companies have taken tables at the grand function and London for a moment goes Sri Lankan.

A Sri Lankan food festival to coincide with the World Cup has been organised by the Mount Lavinia Hotel at the Churchill Inter-Continental Hotel sponsored by Air Lanka.

A song to cheer our team

A song to coincide with Sri Lanka's defence of the cricket World Cup in England next month has been released by the Gypsies in association with Singer (Sri Lanka), the sponsors of the national cricket team.

To encourage fans to buy the cassette Gypsies World Cup Challenge, Singer has pledged to purchase 2,000 copies which will be given away to customers buying Singer audio equipment.

The cassette will carry with it good wishes of every Sri Lankan in wishing the Sri Lanka cricket team all success.
