Former New Zealand representative Trudy Anderson will go into bat for Canterbury cricket next week as its new operations manager.

Anderson, 39, takes over from Blair Hartland, who has moved to the Canterbury Tourism Council.

Anderson is enthused by the challenge which lies ahead, leaving behind a 14-year career teaching mathematics at Hornby High School.

``Sports administration is an area I've been keen to get into and I love the game,'' said Anderson, who in recent years has worked on the Adams Task Force, which reviewed cricket in Canterbury, and a women's advisory group.

Anderson was a regular New Zealand representative after making her debut in 1993 and playing through to the end of the 1996-97 season.

She formed a potent opening partnership at club and provincial level with Debbie Hockley when she moved to Christchurch in 1986-87.

Anderson previously represented Auckland and captained Central Districts, while she has been a New Zealand and Canterbury indoor cricketer, and an Auckland hockey representative.

Anderson will be responsible for overseeing the running of club and secondary schools cricket in Christchurch. Her duties will include organising teams and draws, and liaising with districts.
