Javagal Srinath, with two wickets in this match, has now taken
234 wickets in 172 matches, thus becoming the second highest wicket
taker for India after Kapil Dev (253 wickets in 225 matches) and
fourth in the world. Srinath moved ahead of Anil Kumble, who has 233
wickets from 177 matches to his name.
Rahul Dravid kept wickets through out an innings for the third
time in his career. He had earlier performed this role against West
Indies at Port-of-Spain on 26-04-1997 and against Sri Lanka at Taunton
on 26-05-1999. However it was first time that he effected a dismissals
behind the stumps.
Adam Gilchrist, when he caught Dravid, completed his 100 dismissals in ODIs in his 72nd match. He became third Australian after Ian
Healy (234 dismissals in 168 matches) and Rodney Marsh (124 dismissals
in 92 matches) and the 12th keeper in the world to do so.
With this Gilchrist also completed the allround double of 2000
runs and 100 dismissals. He became first Australian to do so.
The sixth wicket partnership of 123 runs between Sada- gopan
Ramesh and Robin Singh is India's best for this wicket against
Australia. This obliterates the previous record stand of 68 between
Praveen Amre and Kapil Dev at Perth on 08-12-1991.
This is also the second highest for India for this wicket against
all countries. However the best still remains as 127 (between Mohammad
Azharuddin and Ajay Sharma) against New Zealand at Baroda on
17-12-1988.
This is also the highest for sixth wicket by any side on Sri
Lankan soil eclipsing the 115 runs partnership between Aravinda de
Silva and Roshan Mahanama for Sri Lanka against Australia at Colombo
RPS on 30-08-1996. Incidentally India's previous highest sixth wicket
stand on Sri Lankan soil was 52 between Mohammad Azharuddin and Kapil
Dev against Sri- Lanka at Colombo RPS on 25-07-1993.
Adam Gilchrist's allround performance (77 runs and 4 dismissals) makes him the only wicketkeeper to perform the allround feat
of scoring 50 plus runs and effecting four dismissals in a match on
two separate occasions. Gilchrist had made 52 and held four catches
against England at Melbourne on 13-02-1999.
Adam Gilchrist won the MoM award for the sixth time in his
career.
