BCB selects for Barlow's first camp The Daily Star - 26 August 1999 The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) yesterday announced a list of 38 players for international matches against the visiting West Indies and the England A team. Although BCB included all the 16 members of the Bangladesh World Cup squad, except Faruque Ahmed, who earlier retired from international cricket, the board's inclination of counting on experience suffered a setback when Minhazul Abedin followed in Faruque's footsteps. The former national captain called quits to international cricket immediately after the board released the list of 38 players. But, while Minhazul Abedin, who turns 35 next month, decided to hang up his national cap, his contemporary Athar Ali Khan celebrated his recall to the national team after being ignored for the World Cup. Also recalled surprisingly to the national team after a long gap were right-arm seamer Saiful Islam and top order batsman Selim Shahed. The national camp will start at the BKSP from September 1 under the tutelage of the newly appointed coach Eddie Barlow. The South African is scheduled to arrive in the city the day before.
