Ontario seniors retain Atholstan Trophy vs. Quebec.
Canadian Cricket Association - August 15 1999

Ontario with a young development team defeated Quebec at Eglinton Flats Park in Toronto in the annual event on August 14-15/99. Quebec batting first scored 182 runs/9 in their first innings.

Ontario should consider themselves lucky to have contained Quebec to that score. Quebec's openers L. Farrel 42 and S Mehmood, also 42 took the score to 91 before the first wicket was lost.

Veteran Colin Ford at number 6 topscored with 44 after there was a collapse from 91/1 to 134/8.

An outstanding bowling performance by Captain Ishwardat Maraj, 7 wickets for 12 runs in 10 overs (4maidens) was the major weapon.

Quebec fought back and restricted Ontario to 169/10. Sandeep Jyoti 30, A. Mulla, another promising wicketkeeper-batsman, 31 , S Cheema 19 and Ian Khan 15 were the main Ontario rungetters.

K Williams 3/44, young prospect Harry Sukhdeo 2/20, and N Seetaram 2/24 were the pick of Quebec's bowling attack.

On Sunday, Zubin carried Ontario with his sparkling innings of 114. Young A. Mulla, who also impressed with his class at the Senior Select Competition, again scored 49 runs, before like Zubin he too was run out. Ontario scored 249/8 in 50 overs. Williams 1/38, Greaves 1/48, and Forde 1/33 were the successful Quebec bowlers.

Quebec facing 239 runs for victory fell short and was all out or 198 as Ontario won by 40 runs. R McLean 30, P Smith 23 , O. Greaves 39 and H. Sukhdeo 22 at number 10 were the best batsmen. Sukhdeo as he demonstrated for Canada's U 23's vs. Bermuda at Kaiteur CC in Kitchener, surely is in line for a promotion!

S. Jyoti 2/45, I Maraj 1/20, N Shaikh 2/51, and Y Patel 1/16 were the successful Ontario bowlers.
