Former national skipper and top order batsman Faruque Ahmed has decided to retire from international cricket. In a letter to Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) yesterday, Faruque, who will celebrate his 33rd birthday today, has expressed his desire to retire. BCB general secretary Syed Ashraful Huq confirmed last night that they have received the letter from Faruque.

Faruque, who plays for Biman, made his international debut in an ODI against Pakistan at Chittagong way back on October 29, 1988, and played his last ODI at Chester-le-Street against Australia in the England World Cup on May 27 this year.

In his ten-year long international career, Faruque had mixed fortunes, as he played only seven ODIs for Bangladesh. In his seven innings, Faruque scored a total of 105 runs averaging 15.00. His highest score of 57 came against India in Chandrigarh on December 25, 1990.
