The Jamaica Gleaner Jamaica: Battle royale expected in hotel semi-final
Delroy Morgan - 17 August 1999

A thrilling battle is expected at Content Gardens today when former champions Shaw Park and Club Caribbean meet in the first semi-final of the John Issa/Super Clubs Hotel one-day cricket competition.

Both teams have been playing exceptionally well all season, but Shaw Park who defeated their rivals in the preliminary round of the competition. should have the psychological edge.

Led by former national captain Delroy Morgan, Howard Harris, Gary Pink, Orlando Baker, Courtney Laing and Jamaica's NorTel captain Tamar Lambert, Shaw Park possesss abundant all-round talent which could well be enough to get past Club Caribbean for the second time this season.

However, Shaw Park cannot afford to be complacent as Club Caribbean are bent on winning their first title.

Over the years, Club Caribbean have fielded some very talented teams and have played attractive cricket but have never made it beyond the semi-final round. This year, their performances indicate they are determined to go the extra mile. They have beaten all their opponents with great ease, except Shaw Park, a loss they intend to win to avenge.

In-form former national all-rounder Fredrick Redwood is the man expected to lead the fight against Shaw Park.

Redwood has so far chalked up three centuries and his batting will go a long way to dictating the outcome of the game. Cleveland Davidson, Anthony Andrews and Orville Pennant plus schoolboy sensation Rushard Marshall are the men expected to give quality batting support while left-arm spinner Ryan Cunningham, pacer Oswald Martin, Redwood and Davidson should do the bulk of the bowling.

Match time is 10:00 a.m.
