Lancashire Youth: Ample joy for county
The Lancashire Evening Telegraph - 3 August 1999

Lancashire Under-15s recorded a hat-trick of wins at the Ampleforth Festival last week, writes Graeme Hollinshead.

The young Lancastrians began their programme with a 38-run victory against Cardiff. Batting first, they made 176-9 (J Morris 57) and Cardiff finished on 138-8 (Z Taylor 5-15).

Lancashire followed that with a hard fought 19-run victory against Cleveland. D Fitzmaurice led the way with 50 out of Lancashire's 209-7 and Cleveland were bowled out for 190.

And Lancashire made it three out of three with a hard fought 55-run victory against Yorkshire. D Flatley top scored with 110 out of Lancashire's 216-9 and that was far too many for Yorkshire, who were bowled out for 181.

Lancashire Under-19s were held to a draw by Cheshire. Cheshire declared on 290-4 and Lancashire were just 15 runs short at close of play. Nick Woods (58) and Tom Smith (51) were Lancashire's top scorers.

Lancashire Under-12s fared better, beating Yorkshire by two wickets at Dunnington CC. Yorkshire made 222-8 but that was not enough as Lancashire just made it home with two wickets to spare, largely thanks to Enfield's Keith Barker, who top scored with 74.
