Dawn Miandad ready to appear before commission
The Dawn - 19 August 1999

Lahore, Aug 18: Celebrated cricketer and former Pakistan team coach Javed Miandad said on Wednesday he will appear before one-man judicial commission Justice Malik Muhammad Qayyum whenever he is be called.

Talking to reporters at the Qadhafi Stadium, Javed Miandad said that last time he could not appear before the commission, because he was in England with his family. He said that he learnt through newspapers that Justice Qayyum has summoned called all the World Cup team on Aug 23 but he had not received any letter personally so far.

He called the appointment of Wasim Hasan Raja as new coach of Pakistan team a good decision, but added that English type coaching could not remove the shortcomings, which the Pakistan team was facing.

Javed Miandad said that in his tenure the team did excellent fielding during the Indian tour and won the first Asian Test Championship, levelling the two match series at 1-1 and winning a triangular tournament there. But its fielding and top order batting in the world cup, despite having the services of foreign coach were much below to the standard, he added.

He avoided to tell the reason behind his resignation as coach of Pakistan team before the start of the World Cup.

``Time will come to reveal the reasons behind my resignation'', he said.

Javed Miandad will meet the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mujeeb-ur-Rahman at the Qadhafi Stadium on Thursday.
