Hosts Sri Lanka have already commenced its early preparations for next year's Under-19 Youth World Cup cricket tournament. There has been impressive turn out of 1214 top schoolboy cricketers turning up for practice.

They were briefed by coach manager D. S. de Silva on Sri Lanka's initial preparations with a series of trial matches. Six teams have been picked to play three trial matches to be played at Bloomfield grounds on August 17, 18 and 19. The Cricket Board announced that more practice matches will be played on August 24, 25, 26, 30, 31 and September 1. 2. 7. and 9.

Arshad Junaid (A), Ranil Dhammika (B)< Malintha Gajanayake (C), Ian Daniels (D), Jehan Mubarak (E) and Thilina Kandambi (F) will captain the respective teams.
