Dawn Ad hoc body keen to hire Woolmer as coach
Our Sports Reporter - 2 August 1999

KARACHI, Aug 1: The ad hoc committee of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is trying to hire former England batsman Bob Woolmer as coach of the national team.

Woolmer, after a five-year tenure with South Africa which ended in June with the World Cup, is currently relaxing in his hometown. During the last three months, he has received at least two offers from England and Sri Lanka but has turned down both.

But ad hoc committee chief Mujeeb-ur-Rahman said from Islamabad that someone has contacted Woolmer on our behalf.

If he agrees, I will personally negotiate the financial aspect with him, said Mujeeb.

Mujeeb said Woolmer's decision was expected to be known to him by Monday. ``I sincerely hope that he agrees because I am convinced that he is the person who can extract the best out of the Pakistan players. He is methodical and calculated and that's the art which has made him the best coach,'' Mujeeb said.

Mujeeb argued that if Woolmer wants to relax, he will have enough time before he takes over as the new coach.

``I know Bob Woolmer has his criteria and I don't think Pakistan is a side which wouldn't attract him. We have the best players in the world but what lacks in them is consistency. This is the element which Bob can infuse into the players to bring them at par with any side in the world,'' the ad hoc committee chief added.

Mujeeb added that he was looking for a new physiotherapist after Dan Keisal hinted that he was not interested in continuing in his present job.
