Quaid-i-Azam Trophy: Aamir Iqbal equals Pakistan keeping record 7 December 1999
Karachi, Dec 6: Wicket-keeper Aamir Iqbal snapped up a match haul of 11 catches to equal national first-class record as Pakistan Customs coasted to an innings victory over Karachi Whites on the penultimate day of the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy National Cricket Championship match here at the National Stadium on Monday. The 26-year-old Aamir, who had claimed four catches in the first innings, caught seven Karachi Whites batsmen on Monday to take his match tally of dismissals to 11 which brought him at par with Wasim Yousufi's Pakistan record. Yousufi, who held five and six catches respectively in both the innings, performed the feat while keeping for Peshawar against Bahawalpur in a Quaid Trophy encounter at the Shahi Bagh Stadium, Peshawar in the 1997-98 season. The feat of 11 dismissals has been performed on several occasions with only four wicket-keepers surpassing it. Ex-Zimbabwe Test stumper Wayne James claimed a world record of 13 dismissals while playing for Matabeleland against Mashonaland Country Districts at Bulawayo in 1995-96 while three others - including former Australian Test keepers Don Tallon and Brian Taber - have made 12 dismissals in a match. Aamir Iqbal's record-equalling feat lifts his total number of dismissals to 30 (29 catches, one stumping) in four matches this season. Pacer Saad Janjua's career-best five for 52 - all his victims were caught behind - saw Karachi Whites crash for 145 in their second innings some 16 minutes before the tea interval to lose by an innings and two runs. Nadeem Iqbal claimed three for 66 to return a match figures of eight for 103 while left-arm spinner Aamir Wasim took two for 10. Skipper Suleman Huda top-scored with 26 as Karachi Whites batsmen again were found lacking in application. Earlier, Customs added five runs to their overnight 307 for nine before being all out for 312 with Mohammad Nasim playing onto Jahangir Bakhsh for 117. The victory earned Pakistan Customs maximum 12 points which take their tally to 39 in seven matches.
