No hiccups for Punjab 7 December 1999
Holders Punjab completed an emphatic seven wicket victory over Orissa at the Telco Club Ground in Jamshedpur today in a quarter final match of the Cooch Behar Trophy. In the semis they will face off with the winner of the Saurashtra-Madhya Pradesh quarter final starting tomorrow at the same venue. Orissa (overnight 92-1) declared at 240-8 after an unbroken 9th wicket partnership of 58. No. 10 Baljit Singh made 51 of these in 29 balls with 7 fours and 2 sixes. For Punjab opening bowler Gaganinder Singh took 5-68 and captain Yuvraj Singh took 3-72 (match figures 5-90). Punjab were set a target of 175 off a minimum of 57 overs and they breezed through in the 35th over with Yuvraj Singh capping a fine all round effort by making 73 and adding 77 for the 3rd wicket with Vivek Mahajan (43 not out). © CricInfo
