Mumbai recover after poor start
12 December 1999
Recovering from a poor start meant taking a lot of time over their
runs but Mumbai did well in scoring 191 for four in 93 overs after
losing three wickets for 51 on the opening day of their West Zone
Vijay Merchant Trophy (under-16) match against Saurashtra at Mumbai on
Saturday.
Medium pacer Hansalpara rocked Mumbai by dismissing both the openers
with only 12 runs on the board. A third wicket at 51 through a run out
had Mumbai in trouble. But a fourth wicket partnership of 128 runs off
57 overs between VA Indulkar and SP Bagul saw Mumbai make a
recovery. Shortly before close, Bagul was out for 60. He batted three
hours, faced 152 balls and hit eight fours. Indulkar however carried
on till stumps and was unbeaten with 85 after having batted 327
minutes. He faced 272 balls and hit 13 of them to the ropes.
