Recently-retired stars Ian Healy and Paul Reiffel will be honoured for their contribution to Australian cricket with a drive around the Melbourne Cricket Ground in open-top cars during the lunch interval on the first day of the Ansett Australia Boxing Day Test.
Healy retired in October after completing the Foxtel Australian Cricket Tour of Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe as the world record holder for dismissals by a wicketkeeper with 395 dismissals, made up of 366 catches and 29 stumpings.
In addition, Healy scored 4356 Test runs, leaving him in fifteenth place on the list of all-time Australian Test run-scorers.
He holds the record for Test appearances by a wicketkeeper. Healy’s final tally of 119 leaves him second only to Allan Border’s Australian record of 156 matches.
Healy’s record also includes 234 dismissals (195 catches and 39 stumpings) – another record – in 168 one-day internationals.
Reiffel retired from international cricket after helping Australia to victory in the 1999 World Cup. He played in 35 Tests and captured 104 wickets at 26.96 each, as well as scoring 955 runs at an average of 26.52 with six fifties.
In 92 one-day internationals, he took 106 wickets at 29.20 and made 503 runs.
Reiffel is currently captain of the Victorian Bushrangers.
The drive around the ground will take place at the start of the lunch break, prior to a demonstration of MILO Junior Cricket.
