India Local: Thrilling two run win for Madhya Pradesh
Partab Ramchand - 26 December 1999

Madhya Pradesh scored a thrilling two wicket victory over Orissa in the Vinoo Mankad (under-16) Trophy match at the GNVM ground in Calcutta on Friday.

Batting first, MP were all out for 134 in 24.5 overs. The total was boosted by as many as 37 extras, which was the top score. This proved vital in the end as Orissa were restricted to 132 for 7 in the allotted 25 overs.

Abdul Hamid, with five for 18 from five overs, was the star of Bengal's four wicket victory over Daman & Diu at the KYMA ground. Put in to bat, Daman & Diu were bowled out for 128 in 24.3 overs. Even this total was obtained because of a ninth wicket partnership of 49 runs between Savio Remedis (37) and skipper Manish Tandel (22) who came together after their side had lost eight wickets for 65. Bengal, after some anxious moments, reached their target in 23.3 overs.

Karnataka coasted to a nine wicket victory over Andhra at the GNVM ground. Winning the toss, Andhra were restricted to 112 for nine in 25 overs. Karnataka with opener Yognath getting an unbeaten 50, reached their target off 17.3 overs. Yognath and Manjunath (28) put on 78 runs for the unbroken second wicket off 12 overs.

Aranya Dev Sarkar's 75 highlighted KVS' 81 run victory over Kerala at the Yog Yog Sangha ground. KVS scored 189 for nine in 25 overs and then bowled out Kerala for 108 in 24.5 overs.

An unbeaten 50 by opener Sachin Prakash steered Delhi to a six wicket victory over Assam. Put in to bat, Assam scored 132 for nine in 25 overs. Delhi reached their target comfortably in 21.4 overs.
