Rain disrupted the day's schedule in the South Zone inter-university cricket championship in Chennai on Tuesday. The spin of the coin had to be resorted to in a couple of matches while in some games, the overs were restricted.

No play was possible in the match between Mangalore and Kakitya at the Sree Ramachandra Medical college ground. Kakatiya were lucky in the spin of the coin.

At the Pachaiyappa's college ground, only 12.4 overs play was possible in the game between Calicut and Karnataka. In that time, Calicut were 34 for two. The umpires after three inspections called off play at 2 pm. Karnataka won the toss to advance to the next round.

Manonmani Sundaranar defeated Manipal by six wickets at the Anna University B ground. Batting first, Manipal were all out for 148 in 35 overs with R Rajeev (34) being the top scorer. Manonmani in reply lost three wickets for 28 but a fourth wicket partnership of 117 runs between Sivakumar (37) and Essaki (45 not out) helped Manonmani coast to victory in 19 overs. The Manonmani total was boosted by 47 extras.

In a keen contest, Kannur edged out Pondicherry by 11 runs at the University Union ground. Winning the toss, Kannur scored 135 for six in 25 overs and then restricted Pondicherry to 124 for eight in 25 overs.

Alagappa advanced with a 47 run victory over Anna University. Batting first, Alagappa were all out for 165 in 38.1 overs and then dismissed Anna for 140 in 49.1 overs.
