West Zone lose to Central Zone PartaPartab Ramchand - 30 December 1999
Central Zone beat West Zone by 47 runs in the CK Nayudu Trophy inter-zonal (under-19) cricket tournament in Chennai on Thursday. Put in to bat, Central Zone posted a challenging total of 253 for eight in 50 overs. A Kapoor and VA Saxena set them on the road to a good score by adding 133 runs for the second wicket off 30.5 overs. Kapoor hit 88 off 101 balls with eight fours and two sixes while the less aggressive Saxena's 60 was compiled off 106 balls with four fours and two sixes. Parvinder Singh kept the innings afloat with a bright unbeaten 54 off 68 balls with five hits to the ropes. In reply, West Zone lost three wickets for 43 runs but SE Manjrekar (86) and RA Parab (43) raised their hopes with a fourth wicket partnership of 89 runs off 21.3 overs. Parab faced 68 balls and hit five fours while Manjrekar who was seventh out in the 42nd over, faced 118 balls and hit eight fours. Surendra Singh who dismissed both the batsmen then ripped through the batting and finished with five for 52 off 8.2 overs as West Zone crashed to 206 all out in 45.2 overs. © CricInfo
