Bangladesh: Narayanganj clinch National Cricket title Zahid Newaz in Dhaka - 18 February 1999 Narayanganj district clinched their maiden title of the National Cricket Championship beating five-time champions Chittagong district by 59 runs in the final held at north-eastern Sylhet on Tuesday. All round performance by Mona, who hit 54 runs and picked up two wickets for 47 runs, guided Narayanganj to an easy victory in the 24th version of the meet. He was later adjudged man of the match. Opting to bat first, Narayanganj scored 247 runs for five wickets in stipulated 50 overs. Pappu hammered team highest 64 while Mridul a notable innings of 48 not out. Suja claimed three wickets for 47 runs. In reply, Chittagong closed their innings at 188 runs in 40 overs. Daufin scored 69 runs while former national opener Masum made 58. Besides Mona's two wickets, Shyamol claimed three wickets for 35 runs. Cricketers, now on a conditioing camp under coach Gordon Greenidge for the World Cup were not discharged to play the final. Country's district teams as well as universities and official teams take part in the National Championship.
