Reds play Greens in Dhaka warmup

A brilliant 95 runs by Faruque Ahmed took Bangladesh Green team to 294 for 6 in 85 overs against Bangladesh Red on the first day of a three-day practice match at the Savar BKSP cricket ground Tuesday.

The two teams were picked up from the selected players undergoing training in the BKSP residential camp under coach Gordon Greenidge to prepare them for the 1999 World Cup. Bangladesh Green was led by national captain Aminul Islam Bulbul while the Bangladesh Red team by vice captain Khaled Mahmud Sujon.

In his 195 minutes' stay at the crease, veteran middle-order Faruque Ahmed scored 95 runs with 14 boundaries playing 172 balls. The former national skipper shared 104 runs in a valuable partnership with skipper Bulbul in the fourth wicket. Bulbul made 59 off 110 deliveries with nine fours.

Opener Ehsanul Haq Seezan played another notable innings of 52 runs off 106 balls with six hits across the rope. Javed Omar Belim Gulla contributed 16 runs, Hasanuzzaman 13 and Jahangir Alam 10. Naimur Rahman Durjoy was batting with five runs while Nahid was yet to score as the stumps were drawn for the day.

Shafiuddin Ahmed Babu picked up two wickets for 27 runs while Sujon took two wickets for 78 runs. Spinner Rafique claimed one wicket for 46 runs.
