Rivalry between the England and New Zealand under-19 cricket teams resumes at Hagley Oval today when the teams meet in the first of a three-match one-day series.

An engrossing test series was drawn one-all between the evenly matched sides with New Zealand squaring the series in the third test at Alexandra.

England is the world youth cup one-day champion beating New Zealand in the final last season in South Africa. Six of the England players are in its touring squad this season while five are returning from the New Zealand team. ``England beat us in both round-robin play and the final last time so I've told the boys we are 2-0 down already and have to fight back,'' said coach Dayle Hadlee of Christchurch.

Hadlee said from what he had seen of the test series he felt England had more bowling options in their top order batsmen than New Zealand.

``That means our specialist bowlers must be accurate.''

Hadlee said like the test series it was difficult to predict which way the 50-over games could go.

Canterbury has two players in the youth team, Michael Papps (East Christchurch-Shirley), who made a telling impression during the test series with two centuries, and fast-medium opening bowler Hayden Shaw (Riccarton) who produced some fine spells and some aggressive lower-order batting.
