Lara to lose top job, reports paper The Barbados Nation - 20 February 1999 Brian Lara was in the news a lot yesterday. The Antigua Sun reported that he will be replaced as West Indies captain for the forthcoming series against Australia. In Port-of-Spain, Lara was ruled unfit to play for Trinidad and Tobago in the first Busta Cup semifinal against Guyana starting today. It was also learnt that he was expected to meet with West Indies Cricket Board officials and regional selectors today and tomorrow in Antigua on matters related to the upcoming Australian tour. ``It will be very interesting to see if the selectors will recommend him after all that has gone on,'' the Antigua Sun quoted a senior official as saying. ``West Indies cricket needs to be rebuilt and if we were to continue with Lara at the helm, the sores would get worse,'' the official said. ``There is no way that the board will retain Lara as captain for the series against Australia,'' the source added.
