Teams prepare for the South American Cup
Tony Munro - 6 March 1999

Venezuela and a team from Guyana will make their South American Cup debuts when the competition takes place in Lima, Peru this Easter (April 1-4). They will join defending champion, Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Peru in the third staging of the event. The Guyanese team will consist of Miami-based nationals.

The teams will be split into two groups of three, with the group winners progressing to the final.

Meanwhile, cricket in Chile is played in the backdrop of the Andes at the Prince of Wales Country Club in Santiago during a season which runs from October to April.

Two teams are usually selected on the day of the match, chosen mainly from English, Australian, New Zealander, South African and Indian expatriates making up the numbers. However, the amount of Chileans playing the game is increasing, with two being selected in the national squad for the South American Cup.
