1999 season gets underway in the Cayman Islands
Tony Munro - 6 March 1999

The Cayman islands season started in late February, with national players David Wight and Ryan Bovell, leading defending champion, Byrite Sports Club, to a three-wicket win over Prisons in the opening match of the four team First Division competition.

Wight (36 n.o. and two wickets) and Bovell (23 runs and two wickets) were the chief contributors as Byrite overtook Prisons' score of 120 for the loss of seven wickets.

Greenies and Islanders are the remaining teams comprising the First Division, while there are five teams in the Intermediate Division and seven in the Second Division. There is also a four team Youth League, seven Primary Schools teams and a three team Women's League.

While the majority of senior cricketers are expatriates, more youngsters are playing the game, despite cricket being rated sixth in the Government's focus.
