ACB Australian World Cup squad
Australian Cricket Board - 23 March 1999

Australian Cricket Board Chief Executive Officer Malcolm Speed today announced the National Selection Panel had chosen the squad for the seven one-day internationals to be played on the Coca-Cola 1999 tour of the West Indies.

The Australian squad is:

  • Stephen Waugh (Captain, New South Wales)
  • Shane Warne (Vice-captain, Victoria)
  • Michael Bevan (New South Wales)
  • Adam Dale (Queensland)
  • Damien Fleming (Victoria)
  • Adam Gilchrist (Western Australia)
  • Brendon Julian (Western Australia)
  • Shane Lee (New South Wales)
  • Darren Lehmann (South Australia)
  • Glenn McGrath (New South Wales)
  • Damien Martyn (Western Australia)
  • Tom Moody (Western Australia)
  • Ricky Ponting (Tasmania)
  • Paul Reiffel (Victoria)
  • Mark Waugh (New South Wales)

  • Manager Steve Bernard
  • Coach Geoff Marsh
  • Physiotherapist Errol Alcott
  • Fitness Advisor David Misson
  • Cricket Analyst Michael Walsh

Mr Speed said the same squad would then form the Emirates Australian team for the 1999 World Cup, to be played in England.

He said the nine players who would be joining the party in the Caribbean - Bevan, Fleming, Gilchrist, Julian, Lee, Lehmann, Martyn, Moody and Reiffel - would depart Australia from Melbourne on Sunday April 4.

Those players returning home at the completion of the Test series against the West Indies - Andrew Bichel, Greg Blewett, Matthew Elliott, Ian Healy, Jason Gillespie, Justin Langer, Stuart MacGill, Colin Miller and Michael Slater - would leave the Caribbean on April 8.
