Atapattu fit to play
Bandula Molligoda - 26 March 1999

Opening batsman Marvan Atapattu has fully recovered from his injury and will be back in the Sri Lankan side for their crucial second round game of the Pepsi Tri Series tournament against Pakistan scheduled for Saturday at Viskhapatnam.

Atapattu sustained an injury in his fingers while batting during the opening match against Pakistan and also missed the second match against India on Tuesday. Atapattu's presence will no doubt add more strength to the batting and will open the innings with Avishka Gunawardena.

Meanwhile the Sri Lanka team manager Ranjith Fernando said that he is disappointed with the teams performance and hoped they would click well in the remaining two outings and qualify to play in the final scheduled for April 4. He also said that Sri Lanka's fielding has now improved and the newcomers are making steady progress.

Former Sri Lanka team manager Duleep Mendis is currently assisting the team on improving the fielding and had a good work out on Wednesday and Thursday at the CCI grounds in Bombay. In fact the Sri Lanka team flew to Bombay soon after their game against India and they are expected in Visakhapatnam on Friday Morning.
