The Barbados Nation Lads from Down Under in for action
The Barbados Nation - 26 March 1999

Nowhere is too far when it comes to cricket and you're a cricket fan.

Just ask Chris Cotter and Michael Newcombe.

The two cricket fanatics arrived here on Monday from Australia, on a two-week cricketing vacation.

Cotter, from Melbourne, and Newcombe, from Perth, are both cricketers themselves, the former an opening bat with Leopold Cricket Club and the latter an allrounder with Karrinyup.

They are looking forward to a keen tussle in the third Cable and Wireless Australia versus West Indies Test starting today.

``The series has turned around a bit,'' said Cotter. ``The win for the West Indies in Jamaica has made it more interesting. This match will definitely swing it around.

``The West Indies will need to win both to get the Sir Frank Worrell Trophy back.''

Newcombe thought the return of Carl Hooper and Shivnarine Chanderpaul to the West Indies side would make a big difference. ``Lara needs more support,'' he said.

Cotter, despite rooting strongly for his home side, is bothered by their batting: ``The batting is a bit suspect. We haven't scored over 300 yet.''
