Australia name World Cup Nineteen
Rick Eyre - 1 March 1999

Tom Moody's international career appears to be over. The 33 year-old Western Australian all-rounder was left out of Australia's nineteen-man World Cup shortlist announced today. Greg Blewett was another surprise omission, while Michael Slater is still not considered limited-over material. Ian Harvey, Paul Reiffel and Damien Fleming, all stars of Victoria's Mercantile Mutual Cup final victory over New South Wales yesterday, have been included. Stuart MacGill's name also appears following outstanding form in the Mercantile Mutual Cup this season.

The Australian squad will be trimmed to fifteen on March 24, following the Sheffield Shield final. The team to play seven one-dayers in the West Indies in April will be named at the same time.

The Australian squad: Steve Waugh (captain), Shane Warne (vc), Michael Bevan, Adam Dale, Damien Fleming, Adam Gilchrist, Jason Gillespie, Ian Harvey, Brendon Julian, Stuart Law, Shane Lee, Darren Lehmann, Stuart MacGill, Glenn McGrath, Damien Martyn, Ricky Ponting, Paul Reiffel, Mark Waugh and Brad Young.
