Sri Lanka Schools: Bens in dramatic win over DSS
Chris Dhambarage - 22 March 1999

St. Benedict's College pulled off a dramatic one-wicket win over D. S. Senanayake MV with three balls to spare in their 5th annual limited over cricket encounter played at the Premadasa Stadium yesterday.

Taking the first lease of the wicket, D. S. Senanayake MV were bowled out for 126 in 45.2 overs against some tight bowling by J. A. Priyantha who captured five wickets for 28 runs. He was well supported by Malka Fernando who had a useful spell of 3 for 8.

But the Benedictine batsmen never found comfortable in chasing that easy target of 127 despite two good knocks by G. M. Teeban and Chanaka Devabandu. At the end, it was left to the Benedictine last pair to hit the winning run off the third ball of the last over.

(S. Rajakaruna 13, S. Lafir 31, R. Gunasekera 13, Muditha Maduwantha 16, J. A. Priyantha 5 for 28, Malka Fernando 3 for 8).
