Leicestershire arrive in Sri Lanka today

Seven members of English county champions Leicestershire who lost to Sri Lanka last year make the 16-member team which arrive on a 12-day tour today (Tuesday).

Led by James Whitaker, the county will have the services of former England all-rounder Chris Lewis, who is the vice-captain.

Matthew Brimson, Carl Crowe, Jon Dakin, Aftab Habib, Darren Maddy, Paul Nixon and Ben Smith, who form part of the touring side are members of the Leicestershire team that lost to Sri Lanka by nine wickets at Leicester last year.

On that occasion, Leicestershire coach Jack Birkenshaw, a former England off-spinner had a high regard for Muthiah Muralitharan, whom he ranked as the best off-spinner in the world. Muralitharan took a match bag of nine wickets to rout Leicestershire, who showed signs of signing him up as their overseas player until Lancashire beat them to it.

Other members of the Leicestershire tour party are: Scott Boswell, Amer Khan, Tim Mason, James Ormond, Rofer Goadby (chairman), and David Collier (chief executive Leicestershire CCC and ECB management board).

Leicestershire will take part in the one-day triangular tournament with the 'A' and 'B' sides of Sri Lanka.

The county's opening game in the tournament is against Sri Lanka 'A' at the Sara Stadium on March 18.

March 19: Sri Lanka 'A' v Sri Lanka 'B' at NCC grounds
March 20: Sri Lanka 'B'' v Leicestershire at CCC grounds
March 22: Sri Lanka 'A' v Leicestershire at Galle Stadium
March 23: Sri Lanka 'A' v Sri Lanka 'B' at Galle Stadium
March 24: Sri Lanka 'A' v Leicestershire at Galle Stadium
March 26: Sri Lanka 'A' v Leicestershire at De Soysa Stadium
March 27: Sri Lanka 'A' v Sri Lanka 'B' at De Soysa Stadium
March 28: Sri Lanka 'A' v Leicestershire at R. Premadasa Stadium

There will be three rounds of round-robin matches at the end of which the team topping the league standings will be declared the champions. There is no final.
