Our Sports Correspondent - 8 March 1999

LAHORE, March 7: Defending the inclusion of only one wicket-keeper in the Pakistan cricket team announced today for the next three international competitions leading up to the World Cup, the national selection committee member Shafique Ahmad said on Sunday that there was no need for having two wicket-keepers in the team and that one was enough to play in all the matches.

Talking to Dawn after Pakistan announced two 14-memberteams,one each for the forthcoming Asian Test Championship final, triangular one-day series in India and the 19-member team for the World mega event, Shafique Ahmad clarified that Moin Khan could be replaced with another wicket keeper in case of an emergency.

The replacement, he added, could also be made out of the 19-member list which was being sent to the International Cricket Council for the World Cup.

Shafique Ahmad said that every country was announcing one wicket-keeper for the World Cup and so has been done by Pakistan.
