Ntini gets a cup call Electronic Telegraph - 1 March 1999 MAKHAYA Ntini, the black fast bowler who was overlooked for South Africa's current tour of New Zealand and also faces a rape charge, has been given a chance to win a World Cup place. Ntini was named yesterday in a South African squad of 19 which must be reduced to a final 15 by the end of March for the limited overs tournament in England starting on May 14. The unorthodox left-arm wrist spinner Paul Adams and off-spinner Pat Symcox also have an opportunity to secure a place along with the out-of-form Ntini. Two unfamiliar names among the squad are Nic Pothas and Alan Dawson. Pothas has been included as back-up for the first-choice wicketkeeper Mark Boucher. He is also a capable batsman with highest first-class score of 147. Dawson, a right-arm medium-fast bowler, was Western Province's leading wicket-taker in the 1997-98 season. S AFRICA (Preliminary squad for World Cup): *W J Cronje, S M Pollock, G Kirsten, H H Gibbs, J H Kallis, D J Cullinan, J N Rhodes, D Benkenstein, *M V Boucher, *N Pothas, L Klusener, D N Crookes, N Boje, A A Donald, S Elworthy, A Dawson, M Ntini, P L Symcox, P R Adams.
