Major honours for Vidyartha

Three half centuries for Vidyartha College by K. G. Ranjith (11 fours), Daminda Ranaweera 60 (7 fours) and D. Wanasinghe 64 (8 fours, 2 sixes) were the highlights of their Elephant Lemonade Cup inter-school cricket match against St. Mary's College, Kegalle which ended in a draw at Gampola yesterday.

St. Mary's College, Kegalle 227 all out and 130 for 6 in 30 overs (P. A. Ariyadasa 50, T. Prematillake 36, D. Samaratunga 15, G. R. Jayakody 3 for 17, S. Ranaweera 2 for 50).

Vidyartha College (78 for 1 overnight, 300 all out in 87 overs (K. G. Ranjith 85, S. S. K. Hewawitharne 26, D. K. Ranaweera 60, D. Wanasinghe 64, T. Paranawitharne 4 for 27).

Tame draw

The inter-school cricket encounter between Royal and D. S. Senanayake MV ended in a tame draw at Wijerama Mawatha yesterday.

The Reid Avenue boys, who enjoyed a 38-run first innings lead, were 122 for one wicket at close in their second essay.

Royal: 203 all out (A. Perera 68, H. Rajakaruna 25, Muditha Maduwantha 3 for 32, C. Liyanarachchi 2 for 25, M. Alwis 2 for 47) and 122 for one at close (A. Peiris 43 n.o., Thushan Amarasuriya 53 no).

Run getting prodigy Chanaka Wijesinghe continued his splendid form with the bat when he stroked an elegant 80 with 5 fours for St. Sylvester's College. Kandy in their Elephant Lemonade Cup inter-school cricket match against Isipatana MV which ended in a tame draw at Peradeniya yesterday.

Isipatana MV 232 for 9 deel. And 139 for 3 wkts in 29 overs in 120 mins. (S. Wijesekera 57, K. Jayewardena 31, K. Rodrigo 29 not out, A. Perera 2 for 19.
