Ranga, Lakmalka tons for Negombo CC

Two superb centuries by Ranga Dias (151) and Lakmalka Fernando (179) helped Negombo SC beat Kurunegala SC on the first innings in their BCCSL Division two cricket tournament match played at Kurunegala during the weekend.

Pradeep in Board President's 'B' team

Former Benedictine star batsman Pradeep Hewage has been included in the Sri Lanka Board President's 'B' team to play in a series of matches against the visiting Leicestershire county cricket team from England.

It was in the 'Daily News' columns recently that the non-inclusion of Hewage was highlighted. Hewage was selected best batsman at last year's Youth World Cup tournament in South Africa.

The Board President's 'A' team will be captained by former Test opener Duleep Samaraweera and includes Sajith Fernando, Kumar Sangakkara, Hemantha Wickremaratne, Indika de Saram, Manoj Mendis, Tilan Samaraweera, Chamara Silva, R. Pushpakumara, Bathiya Perera, T.M.Dilshan, Dinuk Hettiarachchi, Sanjeeva Silva, Duminda Perera, S. Sanjeewa, Mario Villavarayan.

Naweed Nawaz will lead Sri Lanka Board President's X1 'B'. Besides Hewage, the other members of the squad are S. Kalawitigoda, D.Hunukumbura, Saman Jayantha, Lanka de Silva, M. Warnapura, Indika Gallage, Ruchira Perera, P.Wickremasinghe, Kapila Silva, R.Herath, Dilhara Fernando, N.Bandaratillake and Prabath Nishantha. (D.W.)

A gym for Bloomfield

Bloomfield C & AC have acquired a well-equipped home-gym with four stations for the benefit of their cricketers.

The club hopes to extend this facility to other members as well in the future.

Fine century by Mevan

A fine century (122 retired hurt) by Mevan Fernando highlighted the drawn cricket encounter between Maris Stella and Lumbini at Negombo yesterday.
