The Electronic Telegraph Sussex still undecided over Hove
Electronic Telegraph - 18 March 1999

SUSSEX will decide before the end of the year whether to stay at Hove, their home for the last 127 years.

Tony Pigott, the club's chief executive, said the committee are looking to make the decision as soon as possible as the County Ground is ``falling down around us''.

Pigott believes the county would be ``absolutely crazy'' not to look at all their options and any redevelopment of Hove would take at least 10 years. ``We can't say if we're staying or going at this stage,'' Pigott said.

``This is a very big decision to make. We are looking at all kinds of things at the moment. We have spoken to a lot of people and we know we've got to make a decision soon because we have a ground that really is falling down around us.''

Work, meanwhile, has started at the ground to erect permanent floodlights, which will be used for the first time when Sussex play a day/night friendly against Kent on April 1.

The installation is costing £180,000 as Sussex become the first county to have permanent lights, which consist of eight towers each supporting 24 high-intensity lamps.

Ashley Giles, the England left-arm spinner, has been given the all-clear to go on Warwickshire's pre-season tour of South Africa. Giles had an injection in his left heel after he returned from the recent triangular one-day series in Australia but has come through a final fitness test at Edgbaston.
