KINGSTON - The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has declared today ``Courtney Walsh Day''.

The WICB will make a special presentation during the second Test of the 1999 Cable and Wireless series at Sabina Park to the veteran fast bowler.

Walsh claimed his 400th wicket on March 6 in the first Test against Australia at the Queen's Park Oval in Trinidad and Tobago.

He passed the milestone in the 107th Test of a career spanning almost 15 years when he trapped Australian wicket-keeper Ian Healy leg before wicket for 12.

Walsh became only the third bowler to achieve the landmark after India's world record holder, Kapil Dev with 434 wickets, and New Zealand's Sir Richard Hadlee, 431.

By the end of yesterday's first day of the second Test, Walsh had taken his tally to 408. He grabbed three cheap wickets in the morning session and finished with four for 55 off 20 overs.

It wasn't wholly his day though, as Australian skipper Steve Waugh made a hundred.

Walsh, now 36, is in his 15th year of international cricket.

He has a reputation for hard work and a never-say-die attitude, qualities which would serve the West Indies in good stead today.
