Dawn Last chance for South Africa U-19 to salvage pride
Khalid H Khan - 27 February 1999

KARACHI, Feb 26: The touring South African Under-19 will go into the third and final One-day International against Pakistan Under-19 tomorrow here at the National Stadium with an aim to salvage their battered pride after losing both the Test and the one-day series to a vastly superior home team.

Pakistan, on the other hand, will be looking forward to complete a whitewash of the limited-overs series after registering comfortable victories at Gujranwala and Lahore earlier in the week. Complacency could be Pakistan's only worry because the match is of academic interest.

But the South Africans are determined to end the eight-match tour on a winning note. On the field they have discovered a few stars of the future on this historic first visit to Pakistan. They will be go back a lot more richer in experience after playing in different conditions.

The national junior selectors have made several changes in the squad for the final match. However, the presence of skipper Hasan Raza, Faisal Iqbal, Imran Nazir, Yasir Arafat and Irfan Fazil still gives Pakistan an edge over the South Africans.

Opener Imran Nazir's excellent showing against the visitors has earned him a call up to the senior camp for the Asian Test against Sri Lanka at Lahore. He narrowly missed a hundred by five runs in Thursday's eight-wicket victory after scoring 59 at Gujranwala.

All-rounder Yasir Arafat has made vital contributions with the ball by claiming seven wickets.

The pitch for tomorrow's match appears to be hard. That will allow the batsmen to score freely.

The 50-over encounter is scheduled to begin at 9.30 a.m.
