Sri Lanka: SSC slide towards another defeat

Defending champions SSC were sliding to another defeat at the hands of NCC today in their Premier Cricket Tournament game at Maitland Place. In reply to NCC's massive 443 for 9 declared, SSC, were 137 for 5 when bad light stopped play yesterday.

SSC lost to Moors SC in an earlier game.

NCC added 91 runs to their overnight score for the loss of five wickets with Nawid Nawaz (83) and Ruwan Kalpage (50) putting on 85 runs for the fifth wicket. The former stroked eight boundaries and two sixes in his knock, while the latter hit five boundaries and a six in his half century.

Except for Hemantha Wickremaratne, the rest of the SSC batsmen failed. He was unbeaten on 72 with 12 boundaries and so far has put on 46 runs for the unbroken sixth wicket. Together with Sanjeewa Ranatunga, Wickremaratne, made 62 runs for the fifth wicket.

NCC 443 for 9 declared in 107.4 overs (Russel Arnold 122, Pradeep Hewage 84, Nawid Nawaz 83, Ruwan Kalpage 50, Prasanna Jayawardene 30, Suresh Perera (jnr) 3 for 160, Sanjeewa Ranatunga 4 for 51).

SSC 137 for 5 at close in 51 overs (Hemantha Wickremaratne not out 72, Sanjeewa Ranatunga 26, Ruwan Galappathi not out 16, Chinthaka Jayasinghe 3 for 31).
