Sri Lanka: HNB 'C' clinch Mercantile C Division title

Hatton National Bank 'C' clinched the Mercantile 'C' Division title when they defeated Sampath Bank 'B' by six wickets in thew final encounter worked off at the MCA grounds.

The tournament was conducted by the Mercantile Cricket Association and sponsored by Prestige Automobiles Limited.

Sampath Bank 'B' electing to bat first were dismissed for a modest total of 130 runs in 37.2 overs. Dushantha Dias, Anush Perera and Abdul Jabbar caused the damage, sharing seven wickets between them.

Hatton National Bank 'C' in their run chase lost a couple of early wickets due to some hostile bowling by Dylan Woutersz. But Asela Fernando and Mahesh Wijenayake figured in an unbeaten fifth wicket stand of 61 runs and ensured their teams victory with plenty of overs to spare.

Hatton National Bank's Asela Fernando was adjudged man of the final by match referee cum adjudicator Nelson Mendis. In addition Chandima Mendis of Sampath Bank 'B' was named best batsman of the tournament while K.Welgama of Tri Star Apparel was named best bowler.

The Managing Director of Prestige Automobiles Limited H.A.Reuter was the chief guest and distributed the awards along with Gehan Siribaddana, President MCA, Chris Obeysekera vice President MCA, Tyronne de Silva vice President MCA and Basil Perera chairman tournament committee MCA.
