Easy for Airmen

Air Force beat Nomads on first innings points in a Premier Championship cricket match which ended on the Nomads grounds on Sunday.

Ajith Kumara made a blistering knock of 127 (20 fours), his first top league ton, to put the Airmen in a commanding position in the first innings.

Air Force 325 all out in 95 overs (Ajith Kumara 127, Sagara Gallage 47, Migara Perera 48 n.o., A. Rizan 19, S. Wickramarachchi 3/48, T. Balasuriya 2/68) and 59 for no loss in 10 overs (Sandun Lugoda 38 n.o., A. Rizan 16 n.o.)

Vidyartha in shock win

Vidyartha College, Kandy, turned in a pleasing performance to score a shock ten wicket win over the strong St. Anne's College, Kurunegala in their Lemonade Cup inter school cricket match concluded at Kurunegala.

It was only last week the Annites scored a shock win over St. Sebastians College, Moratuwa and this win by Vidyartha College is very creditable. The architect of Vidyartha's win was skipper and left arm spinner Sarath Ranaweera who captured a match bag of 8 for 72 to bring his season's tally past the 50 wicket mark.

St. Anne's College 108 all out in 28.4 overs (A.L. Tissera 26, S. Rohana 24, H. Laknath 11, R.L. Bandara 2 for 20, K.G. Rangith 4 for 18, S. Ranaweera 4 for 47) and 68 all out in 33.4 overs (C. Tissera 20, S. Ranaweera 4 for 25, G.R. Jayakoddy 4 for 13, R.L. Bandara 2 for 6).

Vidyartha College 153 all out in 71.3 overs (D.K. Ranaweera 38, S.S.K. Hewawitharana 38, D. Wanasinghe 23 not out, D.T. Jayakoddy 14, C.Tissera 2 for 27, S. Mendis 2 for 31, S. Jayawardena 5 for 51) and 28 for no loss in 4 overs (K.G. Rangith 13 not out, S.S.K. Hewawitharne 13 not out).

Kasun (4/70) skittles out Wesley for 146

Good bowling by Kasun Jayaratne who captured 4 wickets for 7 runs helped St. Anthony's College, Katugastota to restrict Wesley College to 146 all out in their Elephant Lemonade Cup inter-school cricket match which began at Katugastota yesterday. The match will be continued today at 9.30 a.m.

The Antonians replied with 30 for one with rain having stopped play at 3.45 p.m.

Rakkitho Wijetunga once again top scored with 26 but there was no big contribution from any of the Weslyite batsmen wet ground is likely to delay the start today with puddles of water in the outfield.

Chamil and Nuwan help Richmond to get 235/9

Two half centuries by Chamil Perera (77) and Nuwan Ratnayake (53) helped Richmond declare their first innings at 235 for 9 on the opening day of their Elephant Lemonade Cup inter-school cricket tournament match against Royal which began at Reid Avenue yesterday.

Chamil Perera hoisted four sixes and struck six boundaries while Ratnayake's knock was studded with three sixes and three boundaries. In reply Royal were 77 for 3 with the medium paceman Omesh Wijesiriwardena capturing all three wickets.
