Fine double by Piyaratne for Sebastianites

A match bag of 15 for 89 and a hard hit 63 by Nalin Piyaratne helped Sebastianites beat Weera SC on the first innings in their division II Emerging trophy cricket match played at Moratuwa University grounds over the weekend.

Scores:

Sebastianites 214 (D. Bodiyabaduge 71, N. Piyaratne 63, K. Fernando 40, K. Sujeewa 6 for 63) and 112 (K. Fernando 26, P. Padmakumara 6 for 44, A. Priyankara 4 for 21)

Weera SC 209 (K. Sujeeva 63, L. Prasad 29, B. Padmakumara 27, N. Piyaratne 8 for 43) and 90 for 8 at stumps (J. Jayalath 18, B. Padmakumara 18, N. Piyaratne 7 for 46).

Mahinda force a draw

The Elephant Lemonade Cup inter- school cricket match beatween S.Thomas' College, Mount Lavinia and Mahinda College, Galle ended in a tame draw at Mount Lavinia yesterday.

The Thomians resuming their first innings at 40 for no loss. declared 103 for 7 wickets. with H.S. Pieris (32) and Upekha Fernando (28) making usfull contributions. Mahinda in their second innings scored 116 for 8 wickets at close with U. Samaraweera (33) top scoring for tham. Left arm legs pinner Suranga Peiris bowled well for the Thomians to capture 4 wickets for 12.

DSS - on top

D.S. Senanayake College were in a strong position at the end of the first day's play in their Elephant Lemonade Cup inter- school cricket match against Thurstan Colllege which began at Wijerama Mawatha yesterday.

Taking first lease of the wicket D.S. Senanayake piled up 249 for 6 wickets before declarnig. Muditha Maduwantha (55), Malintha Gajanayake (50) and Nalin Predeep (54), made useful contributions. Thurstan in reply were reeling at 81 for 4 at close.

Second win for the Sylvestrians

St. Sylvesters College, Kandy scored their second victory in four days when they defeated Kalutara Vidyalaya by nine wickets in their Elephant Lemonade Cup inter-school cricket match concluded at Peradeniya yesterday.

Skipper Ranga Dissanayake match bag of 8 for 87) and Chanaka Wijesinghe (4 for 32) restricted their opponents and it was also this pair who took them to victory by some good batting. Ranga Dissanayake made 26 not out and Chanaka Wijesinghe 21 not out.

Scores:

Kalutara Vidyalaya 89 not out and 119 all out in 66.4 over (T. Ranaweera 32, C. Wettesinghe 23, R. Milroy 20, Ranga Dissanayake 5 for 59, Chanake Wijesinghe, 4 for 32).

St. Sylvesters College (107 for 8 overnight contd.) 148 all out in 72 overs (S. Mahatatarachchi 41, H. Wijeratne 17, C. Ranaweera 11, V. Gunasekera 3 for 21, R. Milroy 3 for 37 S. Geethas 2 for 3) and 65 for 1 in 14 overs (A. Aruna 13, Ranga Dissanayake 26 not out, Chanake Wijesinghe 21 not out).

Fine knock of 87 by Anushka

A patient knock of 87 (2 fours, 1 five, 167 balls, 225 mts) by opener Anushka Imbuldeniya propped up Trinity's innings to 234 all out in their Elephant Lemonade Cup inter-school cricket match against Prince of Wales College which began at the Asgiriya Stadium yesterday. The match will be continued today at 9.30 a.m.

Anushka Imbuldeniya who scored 84 against Wesley four days ago was involved in two good stands of 62 for the first wicket with Harsha Fernando (11) and 52 for the second wicket with Chaminda Aluthge (26). Trinity who were sitting pretty with the scoreboard reading 153 for 2 at one stage but the later batsmen failed to consolidate to be 234 all out.

Cambrian off-spinner Janaka Gunaratne who bowled a marathon spell of 40 overs, took 5 for 100 and in the process reached fifty wickets for the season.

At close Cambrians had made a bold reply by scoring 42 for no loss.
