Bens in strong position

St. Benedict's College were in a strong position after having declared their first innings at a formidable 282 for 9 on the opening day of their Elephant Lemonade Cup inter school cricket tournament match against Dharmapala MV Pannipitiya which began at Kotahena yesterday.

Scores:

Joel Saverimuttu (45), C. Devabandu (43) and J. Priyantha (39) all made good contributions and the bowling honours went to C. Dharshana who captured 5 for 52. In reply the visitors were struggling at 40 for 3. The match will be continued at 9.45 a.m today.

Rashan completes 1000 runs

Fresher Rashan Peiris scored an attractive half century to complete one thousand runs this season as Prince of Wales drew their inter school cricket encounter against Richmond concluded at Moratuwa yesterday.

However the Cambrians won the Major A.P.M. Peiris trophy after gaining first innings points. The trophy was presented to the Prince of Wales captain Hasantha Fernando by the chief guest M.T.B. Fernando a distinguished oldboy of Prince of Wales.

Prince of Wales: 236 and 240 for 3 decl (R. Peiris 68, H. Fernando 31, G. Wannakuwatta 31, T.Wickremasuriya 2 for 42).
